Members · Build Rooms
Open a Build Room.
Bring a seed worth proving. You choose and arrange the ensemble — selected members only — set the agreement, cover the runway, and walk away with a working prototype. Nobody out of pocket, nothing ambiguous.
Until the dedicated tooling ships, open a room from the forum under “Surgeries & drop-in help” — title it Build Room: your idea and the right people will gather.
The aim: maximum accelerated coding for ultra-rapid prototyping — proving a seed fast. Build Rooms are not for multi-team, deep-tech build-outs.
Before you start — set the agreement.
A few lines, agreed up front, so everyone is aligned and no one is left carrying a cost or a question.
- Choose the ensemble. Selected members only — you arrange the room, hand-picking the builders and advisors the seed needs. No labels in the room; just what each person brings.
- Keep it fair. Ask a neutral member to adjudicate — make sure the agreement is honoured. Admins always have access.
- Lay out the Spot Cost Contract. List every cost in the documents area — domains, hosting, software tools, third-party APIs, AI-coding tokens (often $50–$200) — open to scrutiny. The commissioner covers it; the builder never pays.
- NDA, if needed. Exchange a mutual NDA before anything sensitive is shared.
- Agree the roles. Who owns what, who is responsible for what — in writing, before the build.
- State the requirements. Functional and business requirements if you have them; if not, the builder’s reasonable read stands as the brief.
- Define success. Write down what a successful prototype looks like, so “done” doesn’t move.
- Name the host. Even a free tier gets an owner — no personal liability, no ambiguity.
- Keep it legal. No illicit, illegal or damaging software. In doubt, nudge a lawyer or accountant in the room before you build — that’s what they’re here for.
- Open it, or keep it closed. Run a private room, or make it an open cohort build — mentoring in the open, where anyone can drop in and learn from the masters as it takes shape.
- Take it where it works. Each room gets a channel in the managed Slack/Discord — break out to Zoom or a repo when it helps. Connect via LinkedIn and the room’s channels; never personal phone numbers.
- Tip your hat. When someone helps your seed grow, give them a hat tip — the room’s kudos. It builds real credibility for the people who show up for others.
This is not a pathway for free stuff. Costs must be covered and fully transparent; abusing the room’s building talent will be frowned upon. No freeloaders.
All advice is advisory only — legal, financial, technical. It’s shared in good faith, not as formal professional advice, and creates no client relationship. Get your own counsel before you rely on it.
Or back a seed.
No commissioner? A room can be spot-sponsored — micro-angel funding that covers the runway. If agreed up front, the angel gets first right of refusal to take it forward and the right to tell the story. A deal room, turned on its head.
